Jugend-Sinfonieorchester Aargau (JSAG)

This is my graduation project of the vocational secondary school in Switzerland. I produced a 12-minute film about the Youth Orchestra in which I used to play the bassoon. I was filming one week of rehearsals and the following concerts.
Unfortunately there are no English subtitles.

Plymouth Gin Distillery

The module MEDI236 was about producing a documentary film. The aim was to develop practical making skills through the formation and completion of a project as well as developing a conceptual understanding of documentary through screenings, seminars and tutorials. I decided to do my film about the Plymouth Gin Distillery in the Barbican.

“A table is a table”

An old man (Hans Witschi) is tired of bleak and dreary everyday life. He needs a change in his life to get rid of his loneliness. This inner urge leads him to invent a new language which becomes henceforth the center of his life. But what happens to his loneliness?
Based on a short story by Peter Bichsel of the same title, the film
“a table is a table” spellbinds and yet moves the viewer with its characteristic monotony. Marc Hayoz, tutor ROJ
This film is Christoph Jehle and Joel Kuhn’s graduation piece from the vocational school ROJ, produced in 2007.

Making of Miniature 2

Experiment Module Storyboard

Joël Kuhn and I are going to built up a miniature set again. We’r going to try to put a person in the set with bluescreen. To imagine how the miniature set will going to look like, I draw a storyboard:

Greenbank Hospital /Hasselblad Medium Format

I went again to the Hospital two times with the hasselblad. The first time after taking five photos something went wrong with the camera and it didn’t expose anymore. But finally I could shoot my two films on another day. In these photos are the ones for the final series. I’m not sure which ones.

Greenbank Hospital

This morning I went to a rather spooky place in Plymouth. It used to be a hospital and is now a total neglected building. I went inside but it was too dark and my film wasn’t sensitive enough and unfortunately didn’t have a tripod. I was glad enough to go out of this building. I used a FP4 125 film with the Nikon F4. I will go again and shoot in Medium Format with a Hasselblad.

Photo Safari

To find my topic for the module “photographic narrative” I went out and shot some random photos. Actually I was looking for abandoned and derelict buildings but unfortunately just found  the old Dance Academy-Building at the Union Street, which is not accessible. On my walk I took some other pictures.

Vertigo Effect in a Miniature World

Joël Kuhn and I had the idea to try out the vertigo-effect. We built up a miniature set of the scene in the first movie of Lord of the Rings, where they used this effect. We built up and shot the set in the studio. Additionally to the vertigo we took some other shots to create a short video.
I used the first time the programm “Apple Color” for  color correction and giving the film the last tweak in postproduction.

trashartonsunday

Philipp Condrau and I had the idea to make a short stopmotion video every sunday.
One of us starts with a stroke. The other one carries on and so on and so forth. None uf us knows how it will look like in the end.
We already did these kind of cartoons some years ago but not as a stop-motion video:

Here are some examples:
